“You are your state of mind”. That is one big truth that has been a driving force of every individual, whether consciously or unconsciously and just like being a hero is a state of mind, so is being a slave
She reflected on these words as the truth gradually presented itself to her and she saw how far she has been in darkness as the scales were gradually falling off. She is a slave but didn’t know it, she is a victim but ignorant of it because her insight has been bought with those flashy and fascinating things which took away her pride and originality from her. She heard the cry of a new baby and it brought back the memories of the days she was born to love, the culture she embraced because they were so real, the lifestyle she swam in because there were no boundaries and restrictions. All of a sudden, came those people who seemed to have all things in place and gracefully took her away with their appearances and language. At first, she was resistant but with a little more effort from them, she let down her guard and that marked her journey as a slave. She looked at the brightness of the sky and understood better than every other person that happiness lays in independence and independence in happiness but unfortunately, she has lost both. She, an independent entity at a time has been brought to point she can’t take a step without the approval of these demons in angelic robes. She has lost her life as a subject to theirs, just the way they want her to live it. They took her goods, money, language, religion, pride and culture. She was in one word, colonized.
The drop of rain that fell on her opened her eyes completely and unlike every other person in her, she could see their presence brought slavery wrapped in freedom and her freedom lied in her originality which had been taken away from her. She now knew these things but to open the eyes of every other in her is the problem.
