– She was accused of racism after she wore gloves while with black kids
– She explained that she wore gloves because she was told to do so
22-year-old Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, who is of mixed race has been accused of racism after she wore gloves while meeting black orphans with HIV.
It is not actually sure if she was wearing the gloves to touch them or if she was afraid of catching HIV by touching the children.
The model has defended herself, denying being a racist saying she wore the gloves because she was told to do so because she handled the food.
In line with that, she said, “I just want to clear something up. All the volunteers on site wore gloves because we were told it was the right thing to do while working with food and we were handling out food to young kids.”
Then she continued that the most important thing was that the children got an excellent meal that was as hygiene as possible.
She then apologized to those that misinterpreted saying, “I can only apologize if I offended anybody.”
