Love is essential in human existence.
There are different kinds of love but most people seek love expression in a romantic relationship. Relationship requires a lot of work and communication. Most article write up these days only tell you how to recognize if you are in a wrong relationship leaving the part on how you can actually have a healthy relationship.
These are a few tips on how:
Your happiness lies in no ones hands but yours. In a relationship, your partner can only try to make you happy by pleasing you but at the end, you are responsible for your happiness. Make yourself happy and ease stress.
Keep expectations realistic:
No one can be everything we want them to be. Humans are not perfect so is your partner. Expect that your partner will have flaws and good qualities focus on the good qualities and do not try too hard to change your partner or else you will end up pushing them away not closer to you. Accept there will be disagreements if you want to be in a long term relationship. Afterall we can’t all agree on the same thing.
Talk with each other:
It can’t be said enough: communication is vital in a healthy relationship. Listen to your partner genuinely and give advice when necessary. Plan Christmas or new year together that way you can communicate more and know each other better.
Always show affection to your partner instead of just assuming you love him/her. Let he/she feel that you truly love them instead of just saying “I Love You”. Do something your partner will really appreciate, show physical affection like kiss on the head, hugs, holding hands in public etc, go on dates regularly. Do not forget its these little things that count the most.
Loyal and transparency:
Let your partner know you will always be there for them. You can hangout, talk to other people and have a life outside your relationship but always make sure your partner knows he/she always come first no matter what. Do not hide anything from your partner; good or bad and never be too shy or ashamed to talk about your sexual desires.
We all need out space some freedom, never try to choke your partner. Have a life outside your relationship, go out with friends, have a career/business etc. So definitely your partner will have another life aside you so don’t spy on them for example; going through their phones, stalking on social media etc, it will stare up more fights between both of you. Are you trying to figure out if he/she is cheating? You will find out eventually these things can’t be kept secret for long. If you continue to spy on your partner and you get caught, you will loose their trust and respect (most especially if he/she is innocent). STOP being a watch police.
People find it hard to apologize. Sorry can go a long way in solving unwanted issue so drop that ego and pride and own up to your mistakes and apologize. If you hurt your partner intentionally or not, accept it, humble yourself and apologize. Don’t apologize if you not wrong cause it will make you look desperate and we all don’t want that.
It’s much easier and more fun to be you than to pretend. Healthy relationships are made of real people and not images.
It’s a process:
Having a healthy relationship can be learned, practiced and keep getting better. So don’t give up just because all your friends are doing good in their relationships. It takes time to meet people and get to know them. So keep trying…
