When the word “gym” is heard, what often comes to mind is images of Johnny Bravoesque figures
and freaks of nature. As with most stereotypes, this is largely unfounded. My recent visits have brought me in touch with my very being and I urge you to do likewise. In addition to the obvious physical health benefits of working out, there is a mental angle to it. It often serves as a reality check and a call to arms, and very quickly at that. It also teaches discipline and delayed gratification, slowly and steadily making progress provided one has the right disposition. You never appreciate the mind-body dichotomy until you carry weights.
Tearing down to build up,
No limits there’s no stop,
Amalgam of pleasure and pain,
A reminder of inevitable gain.
Blood, sweat, and tears,
Washing away undue fears,
Initiating a metamorphosis,
And unleashing hitherto latent forces,
A shell forged into a fortress,
Purified straight out of the furnace.
The making of many a person,
Replete with crucial life lessons,
All fused into bars of iron,
Out of lambs come forth lions.
