The game of life is not supposed to be action packed and exciting every minute. The downs accentuate the ups and the setbacks make the triumphs more rewarding. Hunger makes food taste better, missing others helps you appreciate them more when you see them- ALAN COHEN”
“God, please help me”…I said this prayer at a time of deep emotional turmoil in my life. After the prayer, I felt a lot better and thought inviting God into my life would be the end of my many sufferings. In the long run it was..But after that prayer, whatever was left of my life fell apart, crumbled into thousand of pieces but then again, very slowly they begin to come together.
Sometimes we think calling on God means inviting a force into our lives that will make everything rosy. In truth, It means inviting everything into our lives that will force us to grow- and growth can be really messy…I have learnt that life is in flux. One day things are running smoothly, the next day chaos reign. One day you feel like you have had it all, the next day, you feel empty. These changes in life are always going to happen. They are part of human experience. What we can change however, is how we perceive them.
I have realized that these are not experiences that have destroyed me, they are experiences that have saved me and that most of my most difficult experiences have led to my greatest growth.
When I think back upon those dark nights of the soul when my life seemed to have fallen apart- I can now see how each challenge made me stronger, wiser, more alive and even more grateful. I can now see that each challenge were crucibles out of which emerged the truth of who I was.
Failure, humiliation, physical and emotional pain, loss can be very painful…yet as difficult as they can be, they can pave the way to illumination, forgiveness, humility, appreciation and gratitude…
Perhaps you are going through the dark nights of the soul, know that..no matter what anyone thinks of you or what anyone has done to you or anything you have done wrong or failure you might have experienced. As low as you feel you might have fallen, that is how high you will rise in God. He will gently scoop you up in his hands and lift you to the highest heights.
And he will do this for his sake. Not because of who you are but because that’s what love does, because He cannot turn his back on His children though we so consistently turn ours on Him. He will do because his mercies are without end. He will do it not just because he loves you, but because He is love.
Hold on, be strong. No dark night has ever has ever not been followed by the glorious radiance of God’s new day. Surrender to him and ask him to help you.
