-Ogun Warns Parents To Stop Giving Children Sanitizers As Drinks
As a result of the panic surrounding the outbreak of coronavirus in Nigeria, the government of Ogun State has warned parents to desist from feeding their children with sanitizers as a way of preventing them (the children) from contacting the virus.
Reacting to the development, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, cautioned mothers during a press briefing organized to give updates on coronavirus in the state.
Coker disclosed that it had been discovered that many mothers have been feeding their children with sanitizers based on myth, warning them to stop the act.
The Commissioner explained that there was no proof backing up such myth, saying “There is no evidence that giving sanitizers to children will prevent COVID-19. So, we encourage people to cease from doing this.”
Meanwhile, she refuted claims that a coronavirus patient was brought to the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta some days back.
She explained that the patient had symptoms similar to that of coronavirus but his result turned out negative.
She said, “The individual that presented to Ijaye hospital with signs and symptoms suggestive of a COVID-19. Since then, the individual who is a male has been admitted into our isolation centre and tested negative of COVID-19.”
